Building in the open
Welcome to the Play Sim Sports devlog. Quick orientation on where things stand, and what this site is for.
Where the game is today
College Hoops Dynasty has been in closed alpha since late June, with live multiplayer worlds full of friends stress-testing every system we ship. The worlds run on a real-world clock — seasons play out tick by tick, whether coaches are logged in or not — and the alpha has been exactly what an alpha should be: players finding the sharp edges faster than we can file them down.
A taste of what the last few weeks looked like:
- The transfer portal became a real market. AI programs now evaluate the portal the way they evaluate high school recruits — with needs, budgets, and competing offers — instead of politely waiting for human coaches to pick the list clean.
- The coaching carousel got teeth. Firings, promotions, and chain-reaction vacancies across the whole world at season’s end, tuned against real college basketball turnover rates.
- Recruiting got a full ledger. Every point you spend, every NIL dollar you commit, every withdrawal — visible and auditable, because alpha players kept asking “wait, where did my budget go?” and the honest answer was “let’s make the game show you.”
- Saves got 7× faster. In-game saves went from over ten seconds to about a second and a half. Nobody writes home about latency work, but everybody feels it.
Why a devlog
Two reasons. First, the waitlist: a paid beta is coming later this year, with launch targeted for early 2027, and this is where you’ll see honest progress toward it — including the misses. Second, we simply like this genre too much to build it silently. Dynasty sims live and die on trust in the sim, and trust comes from showing your work.
Dev streams on Twitch
Starting this weekend, we’re streaming development on Twitch — building features live, tuning the balance math, and poking at the alpha worlds. If you’ve ever wanted to watch someone argue with a Monte Carlo simulation about foul rates, this is your show.
Join the waitlist to get a beta invite when spots open, and we’ll see you on stream.
